Rabbi Eli’s Light
As he prepared to light the Menorah at a public gathering, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, HY”D, was murdered in cold blood.
Light cannot be extinguished.
Rabbi Eli was my classmate and dear friend.
He lived by the belief that darkness is overcome not by fear, but by adding light.
In response to the surge in antisemitism, he shared a video on social media (scroll down to view) of himself putting up Menorahs, set to the words, “Just a little bit of light takes away the dark.” That message defined who he was and how he lived.
In his memory, Chabad of Aspen Hill will dedicate a new, state-of-the-art Menorah, to be lit at an additional new public location. This beautiful and enduring Menorah will stand as a powerful symbol of Jewish pride, resilience, and the eternal triumph of light over darkness.
The cost of the Menorah is $3,000, and we invite you to partner with us in bringing this vision to life. Whether through a gift of any size, a sponsorship, or by sharing this initiative with others, your support helps ensure that Rabbi Eli’s message of light continues to shine publicly and proudly.
This campaign will remain active throughout the coming year, and we look forward to keeping you updated on our progress as this light takes shape.
May this Menorah stand as a reminder that even a small flame dispels great darkness—and that together, our light is stronger than any hatred.
With gratitude and hope,
Rabbi Levi Raskin
